STYLE GURU STYLE: Bold Neutrals

When I think of Burberry, I immediately envision their iconic plaid design and the trench coat that made them a household name. Plaid and trench coats don’t usually mix with resort wear or summer styles, so I was surprised by how much I loved the 2016 resort collection. Full of bold color, texture contrast and unexpected boho vibes this collection made me think twice about my assumptions of Burberry. While lace and macrame were stars in this show, I have chosen to focus my look around three main elements in the collection: duster coats, long skirts and layers.

Burberry is obviously king in the trench coat department, but for a summer look I opted for something I bit more lightweight and casual—a light blue, linen duster coat. A coat like this is a layering piece that makes any outfit look more glamorous and coordinated, especially in an unexpected color.

Underneath the coat, the feminine and flirty personality of the outfit comes out to play. It was all I could do to stop myself from twirling around to make the blouse’s butterfly sleeves dance. Word from the wise: suspend all twirling sessions until heels are removed. Safety first ladies.

An evident theme in this collection is the flattering and figure hugging shape of the clothes contrasted with an absence of plunging necklines or short hemlines. I chose to tie in this element of the show with a long pencil skirt that complements my shape yet maintains a high level of class and glamour.

Another essential part of class is jewelry and one can never go wrong with diamonds and pearls. I love these pearl ear jackets and the cross-style diamond ring is the perfect balance between a trendy setting and a classic stone. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Well that and ice-cream, Olivia Pope, red lipstick and Netflix. We’re all friends here!

Get My Look: 1. Lace dress. 2. Patterned skirt. 3. Pearls.
