STYLE GURU STYLE: ’70s Rewind Reimagined

I don’t know about you, but I’m totally in love with the reprisal of classic ’70s styles in fashion. Though I’m too short to enjoy the beauty of flared jeans, I am a full-fledged turtleneck lover, and with the pre-fall collections out, it looks like designers are loving them, too.

I found inspiration for this look in the simple, yet cozy Elizabeth & James pre-fall 2016 collection. This label spotlights big leg pants and loose silhouettes to create a modern take on a retro trend. The versatility of the looks is the most important quality of the collection, as it offers shoppers the ability to pair the asymmetrical skirts with casual ribbed tank tops or the wide array of knitwear. The cozy textures of the featured sweaters are paired with unexpected fabrics, such as satin, to offer an every day meets luxury feel to the collection. One of the boldest looks features a dramatic, though simple, trench coat paired only with loafers.

My own outfit features a striped turtleneck with button details on the shoulder and is paired with wine colored skinny jeans that resemble a leather look. I topped the ensemble off with my trusty camel trench coat which goes with just about anything in my wardrobe. While I tend to wear mostly neutrals, I love coupling a bold statement necklace to many of my outfits to add a much needed pop of color. This necklace from J.Crew gives an elegant touch to the simple look and is one of my favorites in my collection. As for my shoes, I wore my favorite suede heeled booties, which have become a staple in my fall and winter wardrobe this year, and as a fellow short girl, you can never add enough height.

Though the ’70s-inspired designs have ruled 2015, I look forward to the continuation of the trend into the new year. Maybe I’ll even scrounge up the courage to take on a pair of flared jeans.

Get My Look: 1. A neutral turtleneck. 2. My favorite trench coat. 3. Coated legging jeans.
