Hey Fashionistas/os, my name is Victoria. I am entering my second year as a transfer student at Philadelphia University with a major in Fashion Merchandising and Management. While taking journalism courses for fun and writing for my school’s student-run fashion publication, Style Line (Blog Co-Editor), I have developed a serious interest in the editorial aspect of the fashion industry. I decided that it was time to take my journalism skills to the next level with photography and I am thankful that CollegeFashionista exists as a platform to help me achieve that goal. As a CollegeFashionista reader myself, I am beyond thrilled to be an official Style Guru for the fall 2013 semester.
The way we do things says more about our personalities than the words we say, so our style is a true reflection of who we are. Every last person in the world is unique and we should all use style as a way to express ourselves. When I was younger, I remember being upset with my mother for not letting me pick out my own clothes for school. My personal style was a bigger deal than not wanting to eat vegetables or curfews; it was something that I really felt should never be restricted.
What I wear each day depends on where I’m going and how I’m feeling. Some days I want to wear a dress while on other days I wear clothes taken from my older brothers closets. I almost always accessorize what I have on with gold jewelry—especially my favorite rose gold watch and I feel like I can never go wrong with my leopard print loafers. The most important thing is that I am confident and comfortable with my outfit for the day. I’m an autumn baby (#TeamScorpio!) so I live for oversized sweaters, jackets, beanies, plaid shirts, leather and boots. My friends and family often look at me and say, “Your outfit is very, you”—which is the exact style that I aim for every morning.
Just about everything I do relates to fashion, so my decision to pursue a fashion career came naturally. When I’m not busy with school work and trying to save the world one closet at a time, I’m somewhere quietly reading, blogging, mastering nail art techniques, watching football, tweeting or…. Gossip Girl-ing. (Yes, obsessing over old Gossip Girl episodes is a real activity).
I am fascinated with anything that has to do with Coco Chanel because she was more than a great designer, she was a legendary genius. My favorite current designers are Marc Jacobs and Stacey Bendet who I feel are both super cool and creative people. These icons have inspired me to create a path of my own, travel as much as I can and make positive contributions to the world while I chase my dreams.
Fall fashion is the most anticipated for me and I can’t wait to see how other fashion enthusiasts incorporate runway trends into their everyday outfits on campus. I will be sharing the eclectic styles of PhilaU students with you this semester by writing articles in the WHAT TO WEAR column every Thursday, focusing on what to wear for specific occasions.
