STYLE GURU BIO: Victoria Messina

Style Guru Bio

My name is Victoria Messina and I am a rising junior studying journalism at the University of Florida. A fan of patterned socks, crop tops, flannel shirts, skater skirts and Vans, I’m a full-fledged goofball and lover of life. Though my style is a tad on the eclectic side, I’d say that it’s somewhere along the lines of “modern-day bohemian skater meets wannabe Californian stuck in Florida.” But if I had to narrow it down to simpler terms, I’d stick with free-spirited, hence the name of my personal style blog. My wardrobe contains a wide variety of items ranging from orange studded Vans and fringe sweaters galore to tribal print overalls and a funky patterned snapback. It’s safe to say I have my fair share of statement-making pieces.

Though I have always had a desire to showcase my personal style, my free-spirited fashion sense did not truly come full circle until I came to college. Growing up with two brothers and having played soccer most of my life, I went through a dreadful tomboy phase. Let’s just say I owned every single soccer-themed shirt that Limited Too sold. Another big contribution to my adolescent lack of style is the fact that I wore the same unflattering uniform to school every day from kindergarten until my senior year of high school. Needless to say, I was a tad overwhelmed with my newfound freedom to wear whatever my little heart desired on the first day of college classes.

While some days it’s easier to simply throw on a T-shirt and Nike shorts like many do, I wake up a majority of mornings genuinely excited to pick my outfit for the day. I love trying different outfit combinations that I’ve never tried before and taking fashion risks. I am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to intern for CollegeFashionista and write about the fashion choices of those around me. This summer marks my first of hopefully many semesters with CollegeFashionista. I will begin my internship covering ALL IN THE DETAILS, which is rather appropriate because I myself am a highly detail-oriented person. If you happen to see me out in public staring at you, don’t be alarmed. It’s probably because I really love your bracelet or necklace and am preparing to give you a compliment and ask you where you purchased it.

In mid-June, when I head to Europe for a family vacation followed by a five-week study abroad program in Spain, I will begin covering FASHION FROM ABROAD. I honestly cannot contain my excitement for this portion of my internship. Having the chance to immerse myself in another culture and document the fashionable people of Europe is more than a dream come true. I better brush up on my Español first!
