STYLE GURU BIO: Tammie Melton

Hi there! My name is Tammie and I am a freshman majoring in apparel merchandising and marketing at Iowa State University. The fashion industry caught my eye back in elementary school when I would steal my sister’s Seventeen and Teen Vogue magazines. Since then I have become an avid follower of models, magazines, and global fashion weeks.

I love the fact that fashion can be used as an extension of ourselves and what we choose to wear everyday is a chance for us to express who we are to the strangers we interact with. When it comes to my personal style the two mantras I follow are, “If you like it, wear it” and “life’s too short to wear boring clothes”.

I would consider myself to be more on the minimalistic side. I tend to pair to solids together and stay away from patterns unless they are stripes. This outfit is something that I would typically wear to class or a casual outing. I’m wearing a tan, long coat that practically matches anything. This style of coats is super popular this season. During the winter one of my favorite pieces to wear are turtlenecks. For this outfit I wore a black turtleneck with white stripes to add some contrast with my almost all black ensemble underneath my coat. I paired my outfit with my black Doc Martens that add edginess and personality to this simplistic outfit. As a final touch, I added my creamy toned purse.

Cheers to the semester we have ahead of us!
