STYLE GURU BIO: Talya Gelfand

My name is Talya Gelfand, and I am a freshman at Emerson College. When it comes to my passions, I have two things that come to mind: fashion and writing. Ever since I was a kid, I would sneak into my mom’s closet, take some clothes and create outfits that might have been a bit too big on me. I knew at a young age that I wanted to do something in fashion and clothing.

However, I have also been very passionate about writing as well. Once I learned how to create a full sentence, I began writing songs and stories. When I was 11, I wrote a 300-page book about my fantasy marriage with Taylor Lautner and how we run away together. In the story, we gain magical powers and use them to fall deeply in love with each other. I printed three copies and read the whole book aloud with my parents, which I am sure they were more than happy to do.

Currently I am studying writing, literature and publishing at Emerson College with a minor in photography. I knew that I wanted to spend my life writing, but I knew I would never be happy if I didn’t do something in fashion as well. Currently, my goal in life is to work as a journalist for a fashion magazine such as Vogue or Cosmopolitan. But as I continue to gain my education at Emerson College, I plan to take these next few years to focus on building my skills as a writer and a photographer.
