STYLE GURU BIO: Priscilla Valdez

Hey fellow fashion lovers! I’m Priscilla Valdez and I am a rising sophomore at Boston University. Though for a long time I wanted to go into fashion through merchandising or marketing, I’m currently majoring in journalism with the hopes of still tying in my love of clothes with my career.

For me, outfits aren’t just some matching pieces of clothes that you throw on before heading out the door. They are my communication to the world of how I feel and what message I’m trying to send. I might be feeling especially motivated if I’m sporting Nike shoes and a sky-high ponytail, with a twirly skirt and delicate jewelry might mean I’m feeling extra ladylike. Regardless, my varying style only allows for more room for exploration.

Some of my favorite stores include Zara, H&M and Forever 21. While I’m a sucker for a good deal, I’m adamant in my mission to dress well even if it means scouring heaps of cheap-looking clothes for the one diamond in the rough. Being able to recreate high-end looks for far less money has always been one of my favorite parts of fashion, and I have thankfully realized that “fashion” is not synonymous with “expensive.”

A huge part of my fashion identity stems from both Tumblr and YouTube, the two sites where I first delved into the fashion world. On Tumblr, I’ve experimented with different blog themes throughout the years, exploring styles from beachy to grunge to chic street style. On YouTube I then find gurus with similar taste, getting inspiration from outfits-of-the-week videos and learning about new stores to shop from.

Today, my style truly varies from day-to-day which only makes shopping and styling more of an exciting challenge. I am constantly being inspired by other people’s outfits and through my incessant shopping addiction, and look forward to whichever style I will take on next.

I am excited and eager to intern for CollegeFashionista this summer and find myself lucky to be able to combine my passions for fashion and writing. I hope to both inspire fellow fashionistas with my posts, as well as be inspired by the outfits I scout out and post.

In these photos, I am wearing a baby pink maxi skirt with a lacey white crop top, my hot pink Rebecca Minkoff bag and a delicate, gold Marc Jacobs watch.

Cheers to a stylish summer!
