STYLE GURU BIO: Nikki Giovannoni

To me, fashion has always been a creative outlet for me to express my originality. From the tie-dye T-shirt you can find me wearing on a lazy day, to the ombré in my usually messy hair, every morning is a blank canvas for me to play with.

I have one more year left at the University of Iowa, which means I have one more year left of finding clever ways to somehow write all my journalism assignments relating to anything about fashion, food or music. Since majoring in gen-eds is not an option, I finally decided that writing for my college career would suit me best after testing the waters in one too many different majors of study.

Someone once told me that if I had trouble figuring out what I wanted to be when I grow up, to look at what I have always loved to do. Since I was a little girl, playing dress up has always been a favorite past-time of mine and you could always find me spending hours putting together random pieces from my closet. Well, not just my closet, but my two sisters’ and parents’ closets too. Some of my absolute favorite pieces are ones that are, unfortunately, not mine. Shout out to you, Mom, for the vintage Louis Vuttion I’m rockin’!

In my daily style, I thrive to find pieces that create an unexpected ambiance, usually tending to be comfortable, simple and effortless. I am also a huge fan of color. Sorry to the all-black-everything types, I could wear all white, all day. Throw on a pair of bleached cut-offs and a vibrant turquoise bracelet, and you’ll be looking cool in the hot summer in no time!

I believe that there is a personal style for everyone to be discovered, and the first step is to be yourself always and the rest will follow.

I’m so excited to be a part of CollegeFashionista this season and am looking forward to sharing my world with you.
