STYLE GURU BIO: Maeve Scully

Hello stylish humans! My name is Maeve (May-v); I’m a photography major at the Ohio State University with a minor in international studies and diplomacy with the hopes of pursuing a career in photojournalism. I love sharing my photos and the stories behind them, however I’m still warming to the idea of communicating with others so openly over the internet. But I figured that sharing my opinion on fashion through CollegeFashionista was a good starting spot, because I have a lot to say about it—all the time.

Being in Columbus has been great for me. Each day I have the opportunity to witness over 60,000 students interpreting (or ignoring) the current trends. I believe that one’s style says a lot about who they are, with pieces of their identity unknowingly showing themselves to the world through scarves and zippers. My personal style has best been described by my older sister as “trendy mom inspired by Cruella DeVille.” I like classic styles interpreted with modern twists. Black and white are my go-to colors; being super pale gives me few good color options. I prefer to make my looks stand out with interesting detail pieces with unique textures or prints.

My current summer look involves a simple black tunic, ripped boyfriend jeans and a couple of statement pieces. These Zara shoes are my new favorite accessory. The black lace-up flat is a trend I’m loving (can we can stop pretending heels are comfortable now?) but the leopard print adds a great flare to them. I also add a statement necklace like this one to most of my everyday looks. They’re great for making you look like you tried that morning when in actuality you’re wearing dirty jeans and a sweatshirt to go out. I think that these two additions to my outfit say a lot about my everyday life, from needing comfortable (but chic) shoes for an active lifestyle to adding a pop of metallic personality to an otherwise plain field of fabric.

I look forward to continuing my writing for CollegeFashionista and learning more about my subjects through photographing their everyday self. Keep checking back here for more summer-filled style ideas and inspiration!
