STYLE GURU BIO: Liad Stearns

Hi my fashionable friends! This marks my third semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I couldn’t be more excited to share some fashion from abroad with you all. I am taking classes in Copenhagen, Denmark this summer and although they are going towards my major in neuroscience, I am sure to have my eye out in the fashion world while I’m there as well.

Copenhagen inhabitants are known for having an affinity for fashion and comfort – both of which are at the top of my list of favorite things. Whether it’s a Cecilie Copenhagen off-the-shoulder, flouncy top or a Saks Potts’ giant fuzzy Mongolian fur piece created in primary colors, Danish style has proven to be equally as functional as attention-grabbing. There appears to be a laid-back sense of glamour that is distinctly Scandinavian, and I can’t wait to arrive to see it for myself.

In an attempt to harness a practical and classic look, I paired black jogger pants with a high neck, collared white top. This rather simple outfit can be dressed up with colorful pumps or made more casual with a pair of Adidas sneakers. I decided on a middle ground with chunky heeled sandals, which can easily be worn to tour downtown Copenhagen on the longest pedestrian street of the world, Stroeget. I kept my accessories to a simplistic minimum to allow the power of black and white pieces to come through.

Although many people draw fashion inspiration from their hometown, for me growing up in Granby, Connecticut had little influence on my personal style. This small town falls far from any major fashion capital so instead I took inspiration from my parents’ unique artistic style. My mom is a talented silversmith who has created several pieces with inspiration from her childhood in Ness Ziona, Israel. She has crafted a variety of silver pendants with engraved dancing ladies, textured cuff bracelets and a collection mixed with stones and sea glass picked from Israeli beaches, including the pale turquoise ring I’m wearing here.

I hope to embrace the cool, wearable trends that many Copenhagen street stylists have perfected so well, and can’t wait to share what I discover next in my fashion adventures.

Forsat god dag (have a nice day)!
