STYLE GURU BIO: Lauren Vecchio

June 2nd, 2016 at 2:00am

Hey there! My name is Lauren Vecchio (some of my friends still call me Boris, though…long story). I’m a incoming sophomore at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, and I’m currently a Marketing major with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. Although I go to school in Poughkeepsie, I was born and raised on Long Island. I absolutely love New York City, deep philosophical conversations and Nutella! This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, so I’m beyond excited!

When I was a young girl, I would design clothing night and day. Everyone always seemed very impressed with my sketches despite the fact that they were perpetually lopsided and disproportionate. In eighth grade, when I fractured my back and had to wear an ugly back brace, my grandma (my superwoman who hails from Italy) taught me how to sew. My sketches soon turned into physical garments that helped make the brace look a little more flattering. From there, my love for fashion grew.

All throughout elementary school, I was a complete tomboy. I often rocked high-top sneakers, baggy soccer sweats and a sideways hat (because not even backwards was cool enough for me). Somewhere around those awkward middle school years, I began to develop a softer look. During high school I was constantly experimenting with my style; one day I’d show up wearing Dr. Martens and a leather jacket, and the next I’d be wearing a pastel blouse with flats. Nowadays I’d probably describe my style to be somewhere along the lines of preppy, chic or trendy. However, I’m not afraid to play around with my look!

My favorite color is emerald green, but my go-to color is black; it’s versatile, chic and classic. I find wearing black to be extremely empowering, even though my animated personality hardly corresponds with my incessant usage of the shade. My love of black is displayed in this article, as I’m wearing a black sleeveless turtleneck dress, a felt black sun hat and black gladiator sandals. I usually wear a lot of jewelry too, especially on my arms (it’s a good work out, you know?).

Anywho, I can’t wait to see what this semester has in store! Stay stylish, my friend!
