STYLE GURU BIO: Lamisa Kabir

Hey everyone! My name is Lamisa Kabir, and from the pictures you can already guess I’m from somewhere where it snows; quite a lot. If you said Canada, right on. I make home at a small college town called Waterloo. I am currently in my third year at the University of Waterloo for economics and a management studies minor. I guess you could say that I’m quite adept at problem solving, be it a mathematical problem or figuring out what pairs best with my favorite boyfriend jeans. I’ve been a fashion and style enthusiast for as long as I can remember. I can still recall pitching my fashion design career to my dad at the age of eight, showing him my sketches with the utmost zeal. Unfortunately, my parents were more on the orthodox side when I was applying to universities, and so I decided I should pursue something that would abbreviate the struggle period after graduation, and now here I am. Don’t get me wrong, I love my program. I have, however, always been inclined to take up projects related to fashion, because it’s a very important part of who I am.

I would describe my style as modern chic and minimal grunge. I like switching things up, and dressing according to the occasion and my mood. The only thing that I keep constant is my personal style. I welcome every new trend and try to adapt and make it my own. I think that is what a lot of people, including me struggle with, but once you find your personal style, you will never feel like you’re in someone else’s clothes. That being said, your fashion idols or favorite bloggers are always there to help you draw inspiration.

When I’m not studying, or running errands, you can find me online shopping, frolicking through neighborhoods with friends, trying new restaurants and local delicacies, playing with puppies or appreciating babies. My favorite stores to shop at currently are Misguided, H&M, Zara, Topshop, NASTY GAL, WindsorStore and Sephora. I also love stumbling upon new brands and finding undiscovered gems. Let’s just say, they could easily star me in the college student version of Confessions of a Shopaholic.

When I’m myself, I’m high-spirited, quirky, sarcastic and either dangerously apathetic or excessively empathetic. I am not very good at writing about myself, but similar to my attitude in other aspects of life, I like challenging myself and learning new things. My favorite quote of all time is, “Make a life, not a living,” by some very wise person. I am very ecstatic to be a part of the Style Guru team and can’t wait to bring to you new posts that will hopefully help you learn a thing or two. Cheers!
