STYLE GURU BIO: Josie Brownmiller

Hey there, Fashionista/os! My name is Josie Brownmiller, and I am a junior at Iowa State University. I am pursuing a major in apparel merchandising and a minor in entrepreneurial studies. Right now you’re probably thinking, “Wait. Did she say she was majoring in fashion and she’s from Iowa?” Yes, oddly enough Iowa State has a very notable fashion program—top 10 in the US!

During the school year I keep busy being a part of the student-run fashion magazine, Trend and helping produce Iowa State’s famous runway debut, The Fashion Show. I am also the Director of Merchandising for my sorority and a campus representative for a local jewelry business. As for this summer, my time will be filled with an internship at a local boutique and searching for RAD Fashionistas/os! As you may already see, I am an extremely bubbly, outgoing and energetic person and am passionate about everything related to fashion. I love getting involved and trying new things, and I am beyond excited to begin my adventure as a Style Guru this summer!

Although I have quite the passion for fashion, I have not always been this excited. I was that girl in high school that always dressed up, but I didn’t discover my love for the industry until I came to college. I was extremely indecisive in choosing a major and finally decided to try out my mother’s suggestion of apparel merchandising. She knew that I love dressing up and keeping up with current trends, but I wasn’t convinced that it was a stable job industry. I gave it a try and realized that this is exactly what I’m meant to do! I’ve had so many amazing experiences and have met such great people, and I couldn’t picture myself doing anything else. Mom always knows best, right?

As for my personal style, it is all over the place. Some days I am very cutesy, colorful and classic but others you can find me in grungy graphic T-shirts or being edgy, dark and exploring very trendy pieces. It all depends on how I feel when I wake up in the morning! Having a diverse wardrobe fits my spontaneous personality, but the two things that stay consistent with my style are bold lipsticks and accessories. You will rarely find me without either! I chose to wear this floral Brandy Melville dress for my bio because it’s fun, cutesy, and vibrant—all things that I feel represent my personality. I have paired it with my new favorite Steve Madden platform heels and dangly white earrings. This look definitely displays the flirty and playful side to my personality, but don’t be surprised when you see me rocking a black-on-black look.

I am so excited to expand my experiences and enhance my personal style as a Style Guru this summer. Be sure to stay posted to check out the Fashionstas that I’ll be showcasing each month! Stay RAD.
