STYLE GURU BIO: Jenna Swanholm

Hello Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Jenna Swanholm and I am currently a senior at URI majoring in Textiles, Merchandising and Design. I’m not quite sure what I want to pursue a career in, but I am interested in interior design and decorating, merchandising, public relations and styling. I’ve lived in a small town in Rhode Island my whole life, so I am very eager to branch out and experience something different.

I’ve had an interest in fashion ever since I can remember. I loved sketching and designing outfits when I was younger and would do that constantly in my spare time. I was always a girly girl who loved makeup, accessories and anything fashion-related. It wasn’t until middle school that I realized what fashion meant to me. When I was able to go to the mall and buy my own clothes, I realized I could dress however I wanted and choose styles that expressed myself and what I liked.

Ever since I can remember, people always asked me, “Why are you so dressed up?” I’ve always enjoyed dressing up and looking nicer on a day-to-day basis, even if I’m just going to school or hanging out with friends. Always dressing up stands out in a small town where people I knew just wore jeans, T-shirts and casual clothes. I enjoyed wearing nice dark jeans, leather boots, a leather jacket and a nice top. That is still a typical outfit of mine and what I like to wear most days. Even if I’m not going anywhere where I need to look nice, I like to dress nice for myself because it makes me happy and makes me feel good about myself.

The outfit I am wearing above truly expresses my style and the kinds of clothes I like to wear. It is classic, comfortable, stylish and simple. Neutral colors and basics are my favorite, and typically what I go for when I’m shopping. I’m obsessed with these lace-up flats and wear them with pretty much anything. I love a classic dark wash jean, an oversized cardigan and a comfy scarf to keep me warm and fashionable during the winter.

This love of fashion I’ve always had was always in the back of my mind when I was deciding what I wanted to major in at URI. Fashion was and still is the only thing I really have a passion for and something I know would make me happy forever if I found a career related to it. I’m happy I chose to be a TMD major because I can’t see myself doing anything else.

I’ve also always enjoyed writing, so I wanted to join the Style Guru team at CollegeFashionista to expand my horizons and gain experience in photography, writing and analyzing fashion trends. I am excited to start posting, as well as reading other Style Guru’s posts! I can’t wait to read all your bios and learn more about all of you!
