STYLE GURU BIO: Isabel Gutierrez

June 1st, 2016 at 2:00am

Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Isabel Gutierrez, Isa, for short, and I am a rising sophomore at Tulane University, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Though it may change, I am currently majoring in marketing while also studying vocal performance. Living in New Orleans never gets old to me so I spend my time exploring all of the festivals, food and of course, fashion, that the city has to offer.  This summer, my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, will be spent in Atlanta, Georgia. I’m so excited to get out and find inspiration from all of the stylish citizens of Hotlanta!

My personal fashion journey has had many distinct time periods. As a young child, I absolutely hated shopping and couldn’t care less about what I was wearing. Whenever we went out to go shopping, someone, either one of my parents or I, would end up in tears. As I grew older, I also grew to like shopping…a lot. After moving from Naperville, IL to Newnan, GA, I adopted a few southern characteristics into my style. This began my obsession with all things monogrammed or Lilly Pulitzer. Over the next few years, I started to dress edgier and often found myself being conscious about what I wear, often fearing I would be too “out there” or “over the top” for Newnan. Moving to New Orleans for school helped me mature and become more confident in my personal style, no matter where I am in the world. I feel that my style is pretty unique because I find a balance between the more southern, preppy looks and edgier or more eclectic looks.

While I do tend to jump on the bandwagon with current trends, like crop tops, platform shoes and high-waisted jean shorts, there are some classic looks that I find ageless and always relevant: 1. I have always and will always be obsessed with denim: denim dresses, jeans, jean shorts, jean jackets, chambray shirts, etc. You will notice this about me very soon. 2. I also always try to have a put together outfit, no matter how put together my life may or may not be. I usually achieve this by wearing casual dresses or rompers on days when I’m not feeling my hottest. This lets me look more put together with less effort necessary. 3. Wearing all-black is the easiest way to create an effortless but dressier look. It is so easy to add pops of color to draw the eye in and add dimension.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my bio! You can try your own spin on my simple but timeless look by pairing a black romper with delicate, layered necklaces (I never take my cross off) and some cute sandals (platforms are an added bonus when you’re five foot one, like me)! Come back for a monthly post with new insight!
