STYLE GURU BIO: Eva Thomas

Hello, hallo and hola to all of you lovely Fashionistas/os out there. My name is Eva and I am going to be a senior at the University of Minnesota this upcoming fall, where I am studying Journalism with an emphasis in Fashion Writing and Spanish.

I was born in Germany and moved to the United States when I was just five years old. I spoke only a little bit of English, so learning an entirely new language was, well, interesting, to say the least. I remember spending my days watching Arthur and playing computer games that enhanced my language skills. Eventually, those television shows and games became fashion magazines. And though my reading skills were still developing, the glossy pages of my mom’s Vogue or InStyle, which were filled with pictures of beautiful, extravagant clothing pieces and accessories, did all of the talking themselves. That’s when I fell in love with fashion.

My wardrobe consists of a mixture of everything; there isn’t one look that defines my “style.” Every time I see a new Free People piece hanging on the rack, I fall in love with its airy and bohemian vibe. And whenever I see a flirty and feminine piece by Jessica Simpson, I fall in love, equally as much. However, I do love wearing simple pieces, which I then dress up with fun accessories or bold shoes. My belief is that when you keep things simple and create a sort of blank slate as your base look, the styling possibilities are endless. It’s like a blank canvas and that’s why I often times prefer wearing simple white T-shirts over printed ones.

This is my third semester writing as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I have already seen the huge impact being a part of this community has had on me. I have grown so much as a person and as a writer. Approaching fashionable strangers, though scary at first, has now become so natural for me. The reaction I get when I explain to them why I stopped them is priceless.

For this summer, I will be moving away from the University of Minnesota. Instead, I am venturing a few states over to Chicago, and I cannot wait to see and capture all of the amazing fashions I stumble upon there. Remember—my camera lens is awaiting you!
