STYLE GURU BIO: Azania Touré

Hello, Fashionistas/os! My name is Azania Touré, and I am so excited to be part of the CollegeFashionista team for the summer. For me, fashion is an everyday love affair. The manner in which people dress has always intrigued me. I believe that fashion is a crucial part of people’s lives (whether they claim to be a fashion fanatic or not). It reflects a person’s culture, personality and overall sense of self.

My long-winded love affair is only tempered by my collegiate studies. As a rising senior and art history major, I’ve had the pleasure of studying fashion theory, costume history and performance (i.e. how persons choose to present themselves through modes of dress). Throughout my studies, I have looked very closely at fashion as an art form. Smith College has been my intellectual playground for the past three years, and I hope to continue my studies on the graduate level.

Before CollegeFashionista, I worked as an editorial intern at Lovelyish. In the three months I worked with them, I learned a lot about fashion blogging, brands and trend spotting. I also volunteer with a nonprofit called Fashion Fight Poverty (FFP), maintain my own blog and intern at an art gallery. Although my schedule always seems to be full, I love partaking in all things fashion and art related.

A sense of style is very important to me. The look I’m sporting in the photos above is just a glimpse into my personal style. Standing against a yellow brick wall, I’m wearing oversized men’s black and white striped button-down shirt, black leggings and kate spade slippers. I’m all about the laid back formalized look. Hence, the oversize button-down; I love adding a hint of eccentricity to my outfits as well, which is why I partnered my leggings and top with pom pom flats. They stand out just enough to be both cute and a little different. So much so that it causes an onlooker to do a double take.

All in all, I’m so honored to be Style Guru for summer 2015. I can’t wait to start writing and sharing all the latest and greatest collegiate street style!
