My name is Anna Coke, and I recently transferred from Savannah College of Art and Design to the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. I am majoring in Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles with a minor in Art Studio. I am also a new Style Guru here at CollegeFashionista, and I am thrilled to be a part of this fantastic, fashionable team!
It is safe to say that I have loved fashion from an early age. On Career Day in fourth grade I dressed up as a fashion designer and forced my best friend to go as a model so that she could wear my creations. I remember being the little girl who would talk to the teachers about where I went shopping over the weekend and the one who always had elaborate fashion shows at every sleepover. I spent hours making inspiration boards before I even knew that was a thing. I pored over any magazine I could get my hands on, and Teen Vogue fashion forums and Polyvore were my best friends. Because I grew up in a small town in Kentucky, it was difficult to express myself the way I wanted to express myself; no one knew anything about fashion or even cared about it at all for that matter. Therefore, I lived vicariously through the stylish women I read about in Vogue and Elle, and vowed that, someday, I would be just like them.
Though I still love fashion just as much as I did when I was six, my style has changed quite a bit (although I am not opposed to the occasional ’90s throwback). With that said, I don’t really have a specific style because my style varies with my mood. Some days, I wake up wanting to channel Alexa Chung, and I throw on a shift dress and a pair of chic slingbacks. Other days, I just want to be an Olsen (because let’s be real, don’t we all?!), and live in chunky sweaters and boyfriend jeans. The only rule I have is to always have fun with what I’m wearing. Fashion, to me, is about expressing myself; I never want to take it too seriously and become boring because it is a reflection of me!
My love for fashion grows everyday. I am constantly inspired by the world around me; thus I am beyond excited to be able to share my inspirations with you. This semester I will be writing the WHAT TO WEAR column every Thursday, and I hope that through my posts, I can entertain and inspire you to fall in love with fashion. Here’s to a wonderful and stylish semester, fellow Fashionistas/os!
