STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Thrift Shop Until You Drop

When you hear the words “thrift shop,” one of two things usually comes to mind. If it’s not Macklemore’s extremely catchy yet overplayed song, it is an off smelling store that is filled with some elderly person’s clothes. That is what I thought of until my mom decided to open her own consignment shop. My opinion on thrift shops has completely changed. They are a great place to find vintage and unique addition to your wardrobe. It is the best place to experiment with new trends. You can often try out trends without the guilt of wasting money. If you aren’t entirely sold on the wonder of thrift shops, maybe this Fashionista will help.

What really caught my eye about this Fashionista was her ability to be trendy and unique at the same time. Her look is somewhat ’70s, with the fringe and platform shoes. She also wore pieces that everyone is loving right now, like pattern shorts and kimonos. Pattern runner shorts are a must-have for the summer. Kimonos are also great to add to your closet. If done right, they can be worn all year round. She accessorized the outfit with a chunky gold necklace and bracelets.

I was surprised to learn that everything she was wearing, except the kimono, was purchased from a thrift shop. But then again, the best Fashionistas/os are always savvy.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Fashion will always repeat itself. When I want to try out a new trend, I turn to thrift shops. If you are willing to search, you can always find something trendy and unique.”
