STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Slit Talkin'

August 10th, 2015 at 2:05am

August has rolled around again (cue tiny violins thinking about going back to school) and even though I am clinging to my iced coffees and days spent in the sunshine, it’s hard to not think about all of the divine fall fashion. Cool mornings and oh so hot afternoons have us all boarding the struggle bus to find an outfit that can transition through the ever changing temperatures. Alas, fear not my trendy people—there is an answer to your plight and it comes in the form of flowy tank tops and crisp white pants.

This Fashionista offers us a chic solution to this problem with her black and white ensemble. Not only is this outfit back to class ready, but it also has the ability to survive in the changing temperatures we face and the transitions for any number of activities. I love how she played with the silhouette, and a long black top with a slit in the side perfectly showcases those bright white jeans. Breaking up the standard shape to your outfit is a sure fire way to stand out because it adds such a graphic punch to your good old black and white outfit. Slit side tops are really great for transitioning to fall because it is a flowy tank top that you won’t melt in, and the length allows you to not become an ice cube during the cool mornings. This look is totally and effortlessly minimalist, which makes it a great go-to look when you’re in a rush to get up and go in the morning, yet you want to up the sass for your day.

In keeping the color palette simple, it also allows her splash of color in that fab pink tote (perfect to put your cute planner) to complete this look along with cute booties and some dainty gold jewelry pieces. This just goes to show that going with a minimal outfit does not mean you have to sacrifice the fun or the razzle dazzle to rock this trend.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Always try to restyle pieces you already have and to look to outfits that allow you to go in your closet and make new combinations of outfits.”
