STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Shirts, Shoes, Pants And Accessories

Hey, Fashionistas/os! For all of you quarter system college kids, hang in there! Summer’s about to get crazy here in the fashion world. This week, it’s all about matching. Whether you’re a male or female, this little trick will work for everybody.

Have you ever gone to school unsure if your hat matches your outfit or if the shoes you’re wearing complete your look? Well, there’s a little trick I learned way back when I was a little girl trying to dress myself—always make sure that your shirt matches your shoes and your pants match your accessories. This doesn’t mean that the color has to be the same, but it must look like they’re from the same category of clothing.

My Fashionisto is wearing a gray top and gray shoes, which both match. The dress shirt is very casual because of the fabric texture. The shoes, which are Nike Free 5.0, are very comfortable and athletic, but they aren’t too casual because the colors are very monochromatic. The Nike backpack and the white G-shock watch are both sporty and classic, which contribute to the clean cut, athletic vibe that he is trying show off.

An example of what would not be exemplified would be a person wearing athletic pants and a leather messenger bag or a silk blouse with running shoes. In both of these examples, there’s one article that’s really formal and one that’s really informal. Always make sure that your outfit matches and that your top and shoes complement each other.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I believe that matching is really critical, and it’s easier to pick out an outfit when you’re focusing on top and shoes and bottoms and accessories.”
