STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Print Up This Town

Personally, my wardrobe is completely barren of prints. However, having met this Fashionisto, I am excited to go out and print up this town! This Fashionisto knows how to choose his prints. He has reeled me into prints, hook, line and sinker! Describing his style as London meets New York meets California; he has the classy-ness of London, with the practicality of New York and the comfort of California. His style is perfectly reflected in his outfit.

For someone like me, prints can be a little bit daunting if you are not used to them. This Fashionisto’s printed top has a small print, which is manageable for those who want to experiment with prints without over doing it. The smaller print is also a great way to wear print and stand out at work in a positive way since it is classy and not overwhelming.

One of the best ways to wear print is to pair one printed item with a solid colored item in your outfit. If you’re wearing a printed shirt, go for a solid colored bottom. If you’re wearing a printed bottom then go for a solid colored top. I would suggest anything that falls along the grey scale if you aren’t sure what solid color to wear. For example, anything in your basic white, black or gray would work. Keeping the entire outfit balanced with solid colors lets your patterned article become the star of the outfit!

This Fashionisto is wearing a nice solid black pant, which also matches the color of the arrows on his shirt. Again, staying within the gray-scale, the print is balanced not only by the pant but by the beautiful gray backpack. This backpack is incredibly versatile because of the way that it is shaped. It gives the normal backpack a run for its money by making it seem more “professional” than a regular school backpack. This Fashionisto is able to run from work to school and transition flawlessly, letting his outfit take him day by day. This outfit is classy like London, practical for work and school like New York and just the perfect amount of California comfort.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “If I could give a tip for wearing patterns, it would be to make sure it’s not too overwhelming that it takes over your whole outfit. If you’re wearing a pattern of some sort, it should be more of a ‘statement piece’ that adds on to your overall style”
