STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Not Over Overalls

Overalls: popular in the ‘90s and considered a fashion faux pas in the 2000s—until now. Overalls have made such a huge comeback this summer and everyone from your favorite blogger to your roommate is wearing them. Popularized from the TV show Friends, the character Rachel Green rocked this trend boldly for years. Still not convinced to try out a pair of overalls? Just wait.

Overalls are the more casual, playful and comfier sister of rompers. As soon as you see a girl in overalls you know she’s cool, laid back and most importantly, confident in herself. This trend has been gaining popularity, as it’s a cute, effortless way to look stylish. Overalls come in a variety of options as well: long, short, white, light wash, dark wash, denim and a bunch of other fabrics and textures.

So how does this Fashionista pull of this trend? This Fashionista is taking influence from a grunge, ‘90s style. She’s keeping it simple with a tank top but she ties her look together with the plaid flannel around her waist. Wearing a flannel shirt around your waist can add depth and dimension to a relatively simple outfit. This trendy chick completes her look with her light pink jelly sandals and socks. I absolutely love the girly, lace detailing of her socks that adds a soft, feminine but quirky edge to her outfit.

Overalls are definitely a summer must-have in your wardrobe. They are great pieces to wear if you want to look stylish, but still remain comfortable. Think of them as a step up from jeans or denim shorts. Plus, you can wear them in the fall if you have a longer pair, as well! Overalls are a great statement piece that can also double as a basic piece in your wardrobe if worn right.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love overalls because they’re comfortable. There’s a reason why farmers are famous for them you know? They’re also perfect to go to concerts in, too. The ‘90s are the best. Like, honestly my best advice is to watch old concert footage at ‘90s feminist punk rock or alternative shows. That’s where I get all my inspiration. If Kathleen Hanna, Courtney Love, Effy Stonem or Rae Earl would wear it, wear it.”
