STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Loosely Structured

June 1st, 2015 at 2:00am

This Fashionista caught my eye with her flowy spring style and bold lip color. Her trench coat brings together the pants and T-shirt quite nicely. It also adds a dash of brightness and color to her otherwise dark and intense style. The small details like the knot in the coat sleeves and buttons in the shoulders add definition and structure to the baggy and relaxed outfit. Wearing two things that are large and flowing can make a person look small and baggy very easily, but this Fashionista has managed to wear both the draped flowing trench style coat and harem pants yet look very well proportioned.

Her pants and T-shirt are definitely much more relaxed and simple making this outfit perfect for a casual spring look. Her choice of darker shades with her base outfit and sunglasses paired with the earthy tone of her coat makes that bold lipstick the perfect accessory. Although her lipstick and coat were what caught my attention at first, I cannot go without mentioning the detail oriented and relaxed feel of those harem pants. They frame her look and also create the movement, flow and gather that motivates this look.

This Fashionista kept both her shoes and t-shirt very simple and straightforward which makes them easy to pair with the other edgy pieces in her wardrobe.

When I think of this trend, I think of the Olsen twins and their label The Row. The twins are often seen wearing oversized outfits but always manage to pull them off even with their petite frames.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Start off with only one element in your outfit being oversized or baggy. For those who are not yet ready to try oversized clothes, try an accessory like a statement oversized necklace or arm cuff. The most important thing is that irrespective of being oversized the outfit remains structurally framed to your body”
