STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Kimo-no To Kimo-yes

Everyone has the T-shirt and denim or the black cotton dress that you always seem to grab when you aren’t quite sure what outfit you’re feeling. This tends to brings on a sense of desperation, not wanting to repeat the same outfit in your Instagram picture for the thirteenth time. Make shifting a basic trend, like this week’s Fashionista who finds a way to upscale her denim and simply stated shirt look with a colorful and long kimono.

Kimonos are a big trend this summer season for all the reasons. With a light and airy flow, the piece adds weight to the overall appeal of the outfit without weighing you down. Ranging in color and length, sleeves or sleeveless, kimonos allow you to decide the amount of detail you want the outfit to relate. If you ask me, it’s an understated fashion piece sure to make your outfit a statement piece.

A long kimono, as shown by this week’s Fashionista, can help an outfit present a dressier look. Yet, maintaining jean shorts as the base layer and wearing a pair of ankle booties shows you’re still ready to kick it around town.

Think about those basic pieces in your closet and how they can easily be spruced up for the remaining summer months with a fun and playful kimono. Think how easily this fashion piece will transfer from season to season.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I find it best to wear a longer kimono with shorts to give it more attention and to pair a colorfully designed kimono with solid colors or vice versa.”
