STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Grunge Meets Feminine

January 28th, 2015 at 2:00am

It’s that time of the year where fashion depression begins to set in and all you want to do is stay inside sipping on a nice cup of coffee while watching Netflix. The thought of going outside into the frigid air is truly daunting. All those beautiful dresses and floral pieces hanging in your closet are going to waste and wishing for a sunny day. The snow and cold is ruining your dreams of breaking out your favorite floral babydoll dress! Then it dawns on you to pair that dress with a more structured piece such as a military style shirt or jacket and a soft and sultry scarf.

Military jackets sure are great with jeans, but they can really be dressed up and juxtaposed with dresses. The feminine aspects that are thought to be completely opposite of grungy items like military jackets actually complement each other perfectly. This Fashionista exemplifies just that with her outfit!

So why is grunge paired with femininity becoming so popular? This Fashionista looks like she stepped right out of an Urban Outfitters catalog. She paired her grungy military graphic jacket with a soft and ladylike dress. Next she added her own flair by pairing a nice neutral scarf to the mix. Her Dr. Martens added another grungy and rough aspect to her look tying it all together. This outfit is the perfect combination of summer and winter. Keep dreaming of the warmer months because I assure you, they are coming soon and you will look great!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Comfort! You can still look really put together while being comfortable.”

Hi everyone! I'm Melanie Witzberger from Kent State University, but you can call me Mel. I am in my third year of college, however I'm graduating this August and am so excited about it! I am currently studying Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Marketing. I can not imagine studying anything other than Fashion, I absolutely love everything about it! This is my first semester as a Style Guru and I can not wait to see what this semester holds. The future is bright ( I hope literally), as I hope to move to California sometime after graduation. I would love to be a Stylist, Visual Merchandiser, or Buyer in the future. I also have a deep passion for all things dealing with social media and would love have a career that involves working with it!
