Any creative person will agree with me that being in a creative slump is one of the worst feelings in the world. This tends to happen, for me, in the dead of winter. Maybe it’s the lack of sunshine and midterms that plague my creativity, who knows. Luckily, it was an absolutely beautiful weekend here in the city. Strolling around Hayes Valley, Blue Bottle in hand, I spotted a goddess. Finally, some spring inspiration! She had on a beautiful flower crown of real flowers. Yup, you read right, real flowers. I mean, the amount of effort required for such little wear time is just dedication.
The Fashionista was donning round retro sunnies, a detailed yet dainty nose ring and a flower crown. I was in love. Lucky for me, her outfit didn’t disappoint either. She rocked black leggings, a navy peplum top, a sheer-sleeved kimono-style cardigan and finished the look with platform black booties. By the way, how lucky was I to have spotted her in front of a fantastic purple and pink mural that just looked fabulous behind her? Needless to say, it’s easy to see that the fresh flower crown made her look. I anticipate flower crowns being huge this spring — bigger clusters (unlike the stringed-on flowers) and more colorful than we saw this past summer. They’re the perfect addition to a simple outfit and are just plain fun! Flower crowns are also the perfect DIY to get you out of a winter slump. You can find tutorials here, here and here. Not feelin’ crafty? Etsy has your back. A few of my favorites are this beautiful, deep red one and creamy white rose ensembles. If you’re not head over heels for such a statement piece, dainty ones are just as cute like this one with small lilac roses. Style your flower crown with anything you’d like, as long as you keep it simple. I’d style mine with an edgy black maxi and lace-up peep toe boots.
Power through these midterms and don’t forget to smell the roses.
