STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Floral Paradise

June 30th, 2016 at 2:00am

There’s a reason why, “April showers brings May flowers” is a popular phrase. Florals don’t only have a place in nature, but also all over the hottest patterns in clothing. During an unexpected (but most welcomed) break in the finicky Ohio weather, I caught up this Fashionista who was enjoying the warmth of the sun in her floral skater skirt.

As always, florals are one of the hottest trends in fashion for the spring/summer 2016 season. In order to keep the trend interesting and fresh, many designers are using the floral inspiration either as an interesting motif on a part of a garment or are creating a large, abstract floral prints as opposed to the smaller prints of previous seasons. Dolce&Gabbana used various florals in one collection on a variety of silhouettes this season. Likewise, Gucci used large floral prints to create visual interest in otherwise basic silhouettes.

The love of florals many designers have trickles down into the more budget-friendly stores most college students shop at. Beloved stores such as Express, Urban Outfitters, H&M and many more all draw inspiration from top designers. It’s no surprise then that I found this Fashionista rocking a floral skater skirt. Skater skirts came back into fashion a few years back and have solidified their place as a must-have staple in every girl’s closet. This Fashionista chose a basic red crop top that showed just a hint of skin, allowing this outfit to still be more than appropriate for any daytime activities. She chose a nude wedge heel to tie her look together; wedge heels are always an absolute must for the summer. Not only are they easy to walk in, but they are comfortable and a great way to instantly elevate any outfit. The simplicity of this Fashionista’s shirt and shoes allowed the floral skirt to shine.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I tend to gravitate towards basics, so it’s nice to have a stand out piece that can be the focus of my outfit.”
