STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: All Over Overalls

Hey, Fashionistas/os! It finally feels like summer here in Connecticut, and after our frigid winter, I can tell you that it feels amazing. Last week, I posted my STYLE GURU BIO, featuring myself in my charcoal denim overalls from Abercrombie & Fitch. While my look was very casual, it was also rather structured: classic denim overalls, fitted and paired with suede nude heels, a statement necklace and bright pink lips. This look is true to my usual style—a combination of urban and preppy.

This week’s Fashionista, however, shows us how versatile overalls can be. Contrasting with my look from last week, she perfectly demonstrates how one can create an entirely different look and can convey personal style using overalls—a basic piece making a killer comeback.

Our Fashionista wears a long pair of black, cotton twill overalls with a plain black tank top underneath for subtle coverage and volume. To spice up the outfit, she pairs the plain black overalls with the most fabulous pair of metallic silver oxfords. To complement the shoes, she wears shimmery, pastel pink socks that add character to her overall look (no pun intended). Having a bad hair day or want to aptly finish off the look? Do as this Fashionista does with her hair in a messy, cute side braid and add a cool leather hat. These components make up an awesome urban twist on the overalls. Her look perfectly exhibits the comeback of a traditional and classic look (overalls, oxfords and a baseball cap) that has been transformed to incorporate today’s trends and her personal style.

Not only are overalls classic and cute, they are also easy and comfortable to throw on. Whether it’s a long, dark pair, accompanied by an oversized cardigan for the fall, or a short, light-wash pair worn with a crop top and Converse shoes for a relaxed summer look, overalls can be easily manipulated by anyone to make completely different outfits from one simple piece of clothing that’s perfect for a casual day.

Throwing on a pair of overalls with subtle yet stylish details and accessories, like a loose boyfriend T-shirt, a crop top or funky shoes, is an easy way to be comfortable and causal, but still be tasteful and trendy—it’s a top and a bottom in one!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I always want to be comfortable during the hot summer months, so I like to wear crop tops with my overalls. It creates a good balance, but most importantly, it’s breathable. I always like to give my outfits some edge, so I add a standout accessory. This time it was my iridescent shoes.”
