WHAT TO WEAR: Cold Weather

What to Wear

The temperatures in Nashville this week have been near freezing and have caused some intense bundling up. The students around Lipscomb have been bringing out their big coats, scarves, hats and gloves for walking to and from class. Our campus is small enough to where there are no streets that go all the way through, so you must walk to every building. Thankfully, everything is pretty close together!

I saw this Fashionista walking to class on a freezing cold day this February. She is wearing an adorable leather-piped, double-breasted coat, jeans and leopard flats. From far away this coat looks just like a classic neutral, but you can see the great detail once you get close up. Having a wool coat is necessary in any woman’s life, especially in a neutral tone. This color is perfect for matching most any outfit. Plus, the leather trim adds a little edge and contrast. However, it is also great to have a coat or two in a fun color like Steve Madden’s color block peacoat or with some extra details like print and fur collar. Either way, you’re going to want a coat for this weather!

Another thing I loved about this Fashionista’s outfit is her cross-body bag. These are great for campus. They are lightweight and provide easy access to your essential items. Not only are they convenient but they are also super trendy this season. Several top designers have them in their collections for fall and spring including Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Tory Burch. Kate Spade has some great cross-body bags this season. They come in bright colors, neutrals and prints and are my favorite for this year!

One Simple Change: Flats are acceptable for the daylight hours, but night time will call for extra warmth. This Fashionista can trade her cute leopard flats for high-heeled black leather boots to cover her feet and legs and add some extra sass. This will convert her outfit into something appropriate for dinner out.
