Whoever said, “You can’t wear white after Labor Day” has obviously never thought of rocking a washed-out color palette. As we ease back into our usual 80-plus degree weather here in Fullerton, to avoid being charred by the sun is a huge priority. As cliché as it sounds, the only way to do so is by lightening up our color schemes. This weekend, the answer to all heat-related qualms is simple: wash out your wardrobe.
While this Fashionista isn’t beaming in a full ensemble of white-on-white, the playful assemblage of washed out colors and is reminiscent of visuals on the runway. I immediately realized that this was perfect Weekend Wear because of the versatility and comfort that each piece that she chose provides. As much as we Fashionistas hate to admit, wearing flats feels amazing and there is no better time to do so than on the weekend.
A great way to incorporate muted colors is by integrating soft floral prints. As we move into spring, you will be able to find the perfect muted floral print for you. The rest of an outfit can come together very easily. An easy trick to pulling off floral is to take the deepest color of the print and use it as a complementary color throughout the outfit. This Fashionista chose powder blue and told me that she was able to thrift her high-waisted capris. A final touch to tie everything together is by adding some low-key embellishments. I myself am a huge fan of piling on bracelets and necklaces, but the simplicity of a washed out look calls for simple accessories as well. Whether it be a light cardigan with some faint beading or studding, or some soft suede booties, keep in mind that a washed out look involves softened textures as well.
The beauty of white is in what it lacks. It can be edged up when staunchly worn as a statement, or softened down with some floral print or fringe. Even if you aren’t the type of Fashionista/o to go out in a blazing white outfit, try washing out your look this weekend, like this Fashionista did, as we transition into spring.
One Simple Change: This Fashionista has perfectly executed a casual look for a weekend with family or errands. To dress it up for a weekend party or night occasion, simply swap out the capris for an edgy white leather skirt.
