BEAUTY BAR: All Eyes on Summer

Henry James once said, “Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” Growing up 10 minutes away from the beach in my native hometown in New Jersey, Henry James could not have been more right. With ice cream shops, ocean breezes and sandy shorelines just a few miles away, never could I ever have thought of a summer afternoon as anything but the happiest time of the year. As the month of May comes to a close and my first summer down here in Washington D.C. begins, I find that this forethought impossibility is actually quite an unfortunate reality. The oh so sticky humidity and feverishly high heat waves already have me asking, “who turned up the freaking heat?”

This boho savvy Fashionista, with an ombré hair-do and a fresh-faced look, has already found her niche to combatting the war on D.C.’s summer heat. Preferring a more natural complexion, the Fashionista tries to keep it light when applying her makeup. She plays off of her mesmerizing sea green eyes using neutral eyeshadows, a smooth black eye liner and a simple foundation in order to keep the eyes as the center of her look. A pop of pink lips and a curly half-bun hairstyle are the perfect finishes to her summery guise.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To get this Fashionista’s simplistic summer look, use a neutral colored eye shadow palette, a sharp black liquid eye liner and a bright, fun colored lipstick. Additionally, a foundation is perfect to fix any redness or blemishes. While this particular foundation is great during the hot weather due to its barely there feeling, it’s the SPF 20 UV ray protection that sells the item for me, especially in this strong summer sun. I mean, seriously, who wouldn’t want to protect against future wrinkles?
