BEAUTY BAR: A New Twist on French Braids

Having long hair is awesome, but during the heat of the summer it can often get in the way and add more heat when it’s left down. There are many ways to get your hair out of your face yet most of us tend to go with the quick and easy classic ponytail. This Fashionista demonstrates a simple, fun way to put your hair up and stay cool throughout those summer heat waves.

From the front, this Fashionista’s braids look like regular French braids. But when she turns around, you see that the braids sit tightly on top of her head instead of laying flat within her hair. Her long hair, while completely braided and held in place with hairspray, still flows down her back without looking stiff.

This Fashionista pairs this hairstyle with a simple, comfortable outfit to assure that the majority of attention is drawn to her hair. A bright V-neck paired with contrasting shorts and basic canvas sneakers allow the Fashionista to feel comfortable and confident while spending all day outside.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To complete this look, you do not need professional braiding skills! This Fashionista did these braids herself, and you can too with a little practice. I suggest first perfecting French braids. Once you can French braid comfortably, part your hair in the middle and braid almost the same way as you practiced. Instead of taking each piece of hair over like a typical French braid, take each piece under in reverse. This makes your braids appear inside out or as if they are sitting on top of your head.
