BEAUTY BAR: A Modern Classic

Once again, Chicago has served up some gray and cloudy skies with a few doses of fierce winds. Hopefully the weather wherever you are is much more uplifting and accommodating. Thankfully though, the Fashionistas and Fashionistos here in the Windy City have been adapting and making the best out of the gloomy weather. This Fashionista took the opportunity to channel some Burberry-esque vibes with this cool trench coat since the weather called for something a little cozier.

Building an outfit that uses classic pieces and giving them a fun twist is an easy way to look chic without having to try too hard. Try something like this Fashionista with a simple pair of black skinny jeans to provide a clean base and add a top in crisp white to add fun and easy contrast. Look for a top that utilizes different silhouettes and fabrics to make the look more interesting without going over the top. For shoes, this Fashionista chose a sleek pair of booties, which adds a modern edge to the classic outfit.

What really ties the look together though, is the makeup and hair. This Fashionista adopted some of the most basic beauty rules to complete her look. A red lip is a classic, just ask Taylor Swift! But going with a bold lip can be complicated and needs to be balanced out with toned down accessories and makeup. This Fashionista opted for a nice neutral eye look and knew not to add too much accent on her eyes since the bold lip really is the focus.

For her hair, this Fashionista pulled back her golden locks and swept them back into a low braided hairstyle. Since the makeup is the main focus for this look, a hairstyle that will keep hair and bangs out of the face is the goal.

While each element of this Fashionista’s look alone isn’t much, together they create a killer look that puts a modern and edgy spin on classic pieces.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? Want to get a look like this Fashionista’s? The steps to a long-lasting red lip like hers are simple. First, exfoliate your lips ahead of time. Look for a sugar scrub or homemade lip exfoliator to get all of the dead skin brushed away to create a clean starting point. Use a lip liner and line the lips with a thick line. This will prevent a lot of slipping, sliding and wearing. To top it all off, go with a bright red lipstick or lip pencil like Dragon Girl from NARS or Core Cora from Marc Jacobs.
