Only a few weeks into school and professors already feel like it’s appropriate to start passing out huge homework assignments worth 60% of your grade and group presentations that make up for the rest of it. As college students it’s our job to handle the work load. However, many people fear standing in front of a lecture hall of 200 people making a presentation that forces speaking for at least ten minutes; talk about torture. Not only is there the fear of not sounding confident and knowledgeable to a room full of your peers but there’s also the fear of what to wear.
When I met this week’s Fashionista I felt her outfit was the perfect balance of college youthfulness and academic readiness. Pairing a white Peter Pan collared top with high-waisted black shorts and an extra long, royal blue cardigan she kept things basic and classy, yet interesting, by adding a pop of color. She wore vintage styled oxford shoes in black, but to up the ante go for these funkier, two-toned brogues from ASOS. To complete her school-ready look, this Fashionista carried a utilitarian-styled leather backpack. Big enough to carry her laptop and books, and stylish enough to take it off of campus to work it as a backpack/purse. If you’re over basic black, you can find a variety of graphic versions for added flare. Overall this Fashionista’s outfit was collegiate, conservative and showed off her personality; three qualities any student should achieve when preparing an outfit for a class presentation.
One Simple Change: Switch out these high-waisted shorts for a floor length chiffon skirt to really push your feminine vibe and make this a quick day-to-night outfit. Experiment with graphic galaxy prints such as these seen at Romwe or mix and match prints and colors with this Free People’s skirt.
