WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

June 1st, 2015 at 2:00am

It’s officially the start of summer! That means traveling, time with friends, and for us Florida girls, a lot of sun. I started my summer off with a trip to New York City with my family. The city is one of our favorite places to go, mainly for the diverse culture of it all and of course, the incredible shopping. As one of the host cities for Fashion Week and home to many couture houses, NYC allows for anyone that visits to express their style in any type of way, which is a breath of fresh air for those of us who reign from small towns.

This Fashionista can relate. I am all about this look. Early summer weather in New York can be unpredictable, but this outfit is perfect for warm days that turn into cool nights.

Lets begin by talking about the color palette. I’ve been seeing this blue-gray shade everywhere, and I love it. I’m usually not one for a ton of color, but this soft shade is neither too little nor too much and acts as the perfect transition color from spring pastels into bright summer bolds. Neutrals are always a good choice, but khakis were especially popular in this past year’s New York fashion week. Ralph Lauren and Charlotte Ronson both played with pairing neutrals and color in a brand new way in their spring/summer 2015 ready-to-wear collections. The trench coat has made a comeback in grand fashion, but this time, it is softer and more feminine. The one worn by this Fashionista is from Forever 21. It takes from the trench coat trend and marries it to a long line blazer, complete with a slit for an added edge. Unlike the traditional trench, it is lightweight and breathable, making it perfect for breezy nights.

We all know that accessories are always a must-have. Here, this Fashionista uses a fun pair of Forever 21 sunglasses, gold rings, and Steve Madden gold-accented sandals. Her oversized purse adds even more to the sleek neutrals and is also good for stowing away anything you might need while traveling throughout the day!

One Simple Change: For a hot summer concert, ditch the trench and add an even more fun crop top from Zara, similar to the the one worn by this Fashionista. If you want to dress it up, add a pair of strappy nude heels. This entire look and palette is so versatile, so get out there and have fun experimenting!
