WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

The snow has melted and that can only mean one thing: summer is finally here! Though I’m back at school taking classes, everywhere I look Skidmore students are decked out in  style. Once you hit college, summer is not just about lazy days in sunshine. Instead, there are jobs and classes to fill your time.

This Fashionista is staying at Skidmore this summer in order to research for a professor. What I love about her outfit is that she has managed to find both balance and adaptability. Her outfit is effortlessly both practical and fashionable, a combination that I find terribly difficult to master.

Her black and white striped T-shirt is a fashion staple for men and women. She has cuffed her skinny jeans, which brings the denim straight into June. Cropped denim also has another benefit: it shows off your shoes! This Fashionista’s white tennis shoes add a stark contrast to her stripes by brightening up her entire outfit. Her Fjällräven backpack adds a functionality to her outfit that a purse couldn’t. It might be summer, but this Fashionista has to split her time between research and fun. One of my favorite things about this outfit is her glasses. Approximately 75 percent of adults need some kind of vision corrector. But this Fashionista has turned her necessity into an accessory by making her glasses just another perfect detail of her outfit.

One Simple Change: This Fashionista’s outfit is equal parts practical and playful; it is an outfit that can allows her to research in an office and to go out to lunch on the lawn. Summers as an adult are complicated, and different obligations in our lives can make us feel like fashion comes second to other priorities. So, find a summer outfit that is versatile for you. All you need is a blazer to make this outfit more work appropriate, or you can add a statement necklace in order to dress it up for a girl’s night out!
