WHAT TO WEAR: Internship

June 30th, 2015 at 2:00am

Now that summer is in full swing, I’m sure most of us have settled into our new summer routines. Whether you’re completing an internship or working a part-time job, figuring out how to appropriately incorporate your personal style into your professional attire is one of the keys for success.

Brightly colored anything is always a must-have style for spring and summer. While navy blue and black jeans will always be classics, throwing on a pair of colorful denim is a refreshing departure from the everyday.

Ok, admittedly, the only lightly colored pair of denim jeans I own are a pair of white kick crops. But I can’t help it. As I mentioned in my STYLE GURU BIO, I love neutrals and basics you can build an outfit upon. However, this Fashionista’s bright cyan skinnies have inspired me to go out of my comfort zone add a little color to my denim collection.

I caught up with this Fashionista as she was finishing up her lunch break. She was effortlessly rockin’ a pair of Target brand skinny jeans in her favorite shade of blue—easy and affordable! While most people who work in office settings wouldn’t think to wear bright colors, most summer internships are less formal and don’t require interns to adhere to a formal dress code. Incorporating your favorite colors into your weekly wardrobe is a great way to showcase your personality.

This Fashionista also picked up her awesome geo-print blouse from Target. Don’t be afraid to be bold! Pairing a print or pattern top to a pair of bright jeans can really make an outfit more interesting.

One Simple Change: If your job or internship is a little more formal, switch out the jeans for a tailored skirt or dress pants. Express and J.Crew are two brands that have mastered creating professional clothing that is not only stylish but incorporates a lot of great colors and patterns.
