There’s nothing that feels worse than being forced to leave your air conditioned bedroom during a heat wave to pick up a prescription for your grandma, or bring your car in to get the oil changed. Beating the heat isn’t the answer though; working with it is.

This Fashionista chose to work with the hot summer sun, not against it. She opted for a black floral maxi dress and an airy, open-knit neutral shawl cardigan. This look is effortless, and cool. She paired the marvelous maxi with a bright red structured bag, and some golden aviators. This look is so versatile because it’s easy to put together, but looks well thought out.

Heat waves are a rare occurrence in the Pacific Northwest, and sometimes our lack of preparedness gives that away. Maxi dresses are the greatest solution to unpredictable weather because they seem to be applicable to all kinds of temperatures. If you pair one with a fitted blazer, it can be ideal for cooler seasons. Adversely, a bright pair of coral gladiator sandals can make for an awesome spring outfit. Of course you can’t go wrong with a giant floppy hat to wear with your maxi to make it extra summery. The versatility is what makes these pieces so tremendous.

One Simple Change: Feeling like a girl’s night is in your future? As soon as those errands are done, swap out your bag for a solid black clutch and ditch the sandals for some black wedges. Now you’re ready for a dinner date with all your best friends. You know, to share your best heave wave survival tips.
