WHAT TO WEAR: Cold Weather

When most people look outside and see cold, dreary, gray skies through their rain-streaked window, their first thought is to bundle up in a shapeless, protective jacket, sacrificing style for warmth and function. Look how this Fashionista maintains her preppy style while staying warm and cozy.

At first glance, her sweater is navy with teal cuffs. However, this is deceptive and it is actually color-blocked. Small brown buttons on the shoulders, a teal back and tan elbow pads add drama to the sweater. While warm and comfortable, it is also effortlessly stylish. Anyone who knows me, knows that I like a good sweater, and this sweater is one I love. Sweaters are comfortable, warm and can be paired with almost anything—dresses, skirts, leggings, jeans, shorts—to create super stylish looks. My favorite sweaters are thinly-knit ones that can be worn in the spring, fall and winter.

This Fashionista wears dark wash, skinny jeans, a staple of any good wardrobe. Dark wash jeans are another versatile piece of clothing that can be worn with many different types of tops and shoes. Invest in a good pair of jeans that fit well, because they will last you a long time and save you in some fashion crises when you feel like you have nothing to wear!

If styled properly, rain boots can be chic, and this Fashionista does so in her black matte Hunter Boots. She completes her preppy look with a gold monogrammed necklace, a gold watch and gold bangles. If you ever want to try out a preppy look, my advice is to go directly to anything monogrammed. Monogramming your necklaces, bags and the collars of shirts is one of the most preppiest things you could do.

All this Fashionista needs to do is grab her umbrella and water-proof jacket, and she is ready to take on the cold weather and rain in style!

Choosing an outfit for cold and rainy days can be tough, because you tend to want to gravitate to bulky, functional clothes. However, simple, stylish outfits can be created that combat the rain, and it all starts with a sweater that you love.

One Simple Change: This Fashionista’s sweater can easily be worn tucked into a black pleated skirt and paired with black booties with a chunky heel to make her ready for a date night!
