WHAT TO WEAR: Class

February 1st, 2016 at 2:00am

Hello from the absolutely freezing Columbus, Ohio! At this time of year in Columbus the temperature likes to consistently hover at the point where you can’t feel your feet, your face is flushed and you’re sniffling away a runny nose. Cute right? Waking up for class in the winter can be a battle in itself, but looking put together while staying warm can seem impossible.

Fear not fashionable friends, this actually is possible! You can in fact stay warm and avoid feeling like a shlumpadinka. For those of you that don’t know, this is a term Oprah Winfrey came up with for those days when you pick your sweatpants up off the floor and give them a sniff check. We’ve all been there, trust me, but you don’t have to wear the sweatshirt you wore yesterday and the day before yesterday and the day before that just because you want to be cozy. There are two keys to being stylish without freezing. Number one, wear comfortable, insulated shoes—your feet will thank you later. Secondly, layers will become your best friend.

What better example of great fashion is there than your Textiles classmate? This Fashionista effortlessly looks cute without having to shiver. She paired every college student’s favorite Bean Boots with a classic pair of skinny jeans, plaid collard shirt and wool sweater. Her Bean Boots and socks will keep her feet toasty and her layered tops are not only stylish but comfortable too. Plus, if she finds herself in an overly heated classroom, she can simply wear the button-down by itself. Lastly, this Fashionista finishes off her preppy look with a silver monogram necklace and a gray parka that stands out in a sea of black coats. Whether she’s walking across campus or sitting in class she’s sure to make a statement.

One Simple Change: Headed to brunch after a morning full of classes? Swap out your parka and winter boots for a vest and booties. You won’t overheat in the restaurant, while maintaining your put together look.
