WHAT TO WEAR: Back to School

It’s that time again. Time to roll out of bed, crawl away from Netflix and scurry off to class. Personally, I think it’s very hard to flip from summer mode back into school mode. No longer can you live in a bathing suit. You have to get up before one in the afternoon and the stress of schoolwork is rapidly approaching. It is important to stress about what is really important, like getting your degree, and you must not let the stress of “I have nothing to wear” get in your way. But fear not, us here at CollegeFashionista are here to help.

Some college students make a very good case for an outfit consisting of athletic shorts, sorority jerseys, tennis shoes and a baseball cap. Don’t get me wrong—it’s probably the comfiest, best outfit to throw on and go to class in, but here I found a Fashionista who offers a twist on that look. It’s perfect for when you just cannot justify gym clothes for day five out of five.

Her outfit is as simple as a T-shirt, denim shorts and sneakers, and she still looks totally put together. Her top, a faux leather material in an snakeskin pattern by Calvin Klein, offers a simple alternative to any baggy T-shirt that you may have lying around. Let me add that investing in a higher end T-shirt is totally worth the splurge for a basic piece to build your wardrobe with. The higher quality stitching, tailoring, folds and texture make it a much nicer fit. Plus, it offers the ease and comfort of a T-shirt with elevated style. She paired her top with some simple denim cutoffs from American Eagle Outfitters, perfect for the warm weather that leaks into September. Speaking from down here at the University of South Carolina, that heat lasts strong into October, so the short shorts are a must. Also, they are a staple piece that are almost as comfortable but slightly more stylish than your usual Nike Pro running shorts. On the bottom, she has opted for the comfy and smart option of sneakers. Instead of running sneakers, she has opted for some stylish, basic, black slip-ons to match her shirt and to keep up with the amount of walking this campus requires!

So, the back to school T-shirt, shorts and sneakers really can be done and still look stylish and put together. I know it’s hard enough to be asked to get out of bed and make it to that 8:15 a.m. class, so make it easy on yourself and go for your basic wardrobe staples in nicer materials and focus on fits to look polished and stylish, even if you are only half awake.

One Simple Change: If you’re at a northern school or a cooler campus, take this back to school look right into fall with a pair of ripped skinny jeans. They are basically just an extension of the shorts for those of you who are easing back into the cool, crisp air of fall.
