STYLE OF THE WEEK: Pop On A Crop Top

Summer is nearly here and as we take off our spring layers, new trends have blossomed. To be more specific, the crop top has come back, as it does each and every summer. Yet, this summer I notice a significant difference in the quality of the crop top. What once was a Coachella basic T-shirt has become a stylish, designer trend. Brand names such as rag & bone, Carven, Balenciaga and Marni have taken the boho-chic look and turned it into pure elegance.

Crop tops are not only made in cotton form, but embroidered with beautiful organza material, decorated with fringe and adorned with a sophisticated bow-tie at the hem. It’s quite funny because I used to raise my eyebrows when girls would wear crop tops to dressy events. I would think of them as classless and cheap. Yet, talented designers have effectively changed my opinion on this matter.

Now, whenever I have a soiree to attend to, I skip over the LBDs at the clothing store. Instead, I head over to the two-piece section of the store to examine any cute crop tops with their respective skirts. This trend has become so innovative, that it has captured my attention and takes up most of my closet!

Of course, keep in mind to work on those planks at the gym before you put a crop top on! Check out this Fashionista’s look to see how to wear the trend for a lunch with friends. She keeps it monochromatic with a simple black lace top and black skinny jeans. A cross-body bag and loafers with gold buckles polish off her simple yet ultra sophisticated ensemble.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My main focus with crop tops is to make sure they are not too cropped at the hem when attending a formal event. Also, be sure to have correct posture when wearing this trend. Next time you ‘pop one on’, stand up straight, shoulders back and smile, since confidence is key to pull one off”.
