STYLE GURU STYLE: Tulle and Tutus

Jun Takahashi’s Undercover spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection was made for a princess. The pastel tulle skirts, feathered wings and floral patterns inspired from a secret garden covered the models from head to toe. It was as if a black swan ballerina and the royal highness herself joined together to create this runway show unlike any other out there. It was ethereal, magical, soft and big; it was truly inspiring. The minute I took my eyes off of the screen, I began dreaming of tulle and tutus.

The elaborate and ornate nature behind this collection is gorgeous and breathtaking, but hard to translate into everyday fashion. However, I had to try and create a look of my own that reflected the vision Takahashi himself had when creating this collection—just mildly toned down of course. My dreams came true when I stumbled upon this nude tulle skirt. It was girly, soft and reminded me of his collection. In order to make this skirt wearable and reflect my style, I paired it with a chambray button up that I tied to meet the waistline of the skirt. Combining a classic preppy top with a girly, ethereal skirt is such a fun and easy combination. The skirt made me feel totally girly and like a true ballerina; I couldn’t help but twirl around a few times. Never have I ever felt more myself in an outfit before.

Ready to hit the streets of Paris in my tutu and classic black stilettos, it was time to accessorize. This outfit was perfect for my perfume inspired handbag my mom bought for me on one of her trips. It is so much fun, super quirky and classy all at the same time. It is perfect for a night out when I want to sway away from my usual simple bag and spice things up a bit.

With the tulle and wild handbag at the center of my outfit, I kept the jewelry rather simple with a neutral gold necklace tucked under the collar of my shirt. A classic black and gold watch and a few bangles completed the look for a simple, chic and put together look fit for any occasion. If I could thank Takahashi a million times, I would. If it weren’t for him, I would have never discovered my new and never-ending love for tulle skirts and princess inspired fashion.

Get My Look: 1. A gorgeous tulle skirt. 2. Chambray collared shirt. 3. Perfume bottle-inspired purse. 4. Black stilettos.
