STYLE GURU STYLE: The Little Black Dress

The little black dress is a staple item to every girl’s wardrobe. If you don’t already have a little black dress, it is vital that you go to the store and buy one. The best thing about the little black dress is that you can make it appropriate for any event. Throw on a flannel over it and you’re comfy and casual for night in with friends. Put on some nice jewelry and a blazer and your formal and feminine for work or school. Find a cute leather jacket and you’re edgy for a night on the town. Wrap a scarf around your neck and throw on some tights and you can rock the LBD in any season. The key to making the little black dress your own is with accessories.

Black dresses are simple, making them my favorite item in my closet. Everyone can rock a black dress. A.L.C.’s pre-fall 2015 line inspired my look with its simple designs and neutral colors that embody an edgier look. They make the school dress code cool again with the white blouses and black trousers. They hint at the punk rock era with their designs giving an edgier look to the clothing line that never overdoes it. This line even had an LBD that crossed over to preppy with a white collar at the top.

For my look, I decided to embrace the slightly edgy look with a simple black cotton dress and my black Members Only leather jacket. Black leather booties adorned my feet and rings littered my fingers. I wore my classic Ray-Ban sunglasses to add to the coolness of my look. To top off my whole outfit I wore bright red lipstick. This enhanced my look and brightened up the otherwise all-black outfit. Even though it is summer, you can still rock all-black ensembles. It is just about finding the right pieces that will work in the heat. For me, the leather jacket is a perfect addition to any outfit, especially the LBD, because it goes well with anything and is perfect to throw on for the cool summer nights.
