STYLE GURU STYLE: The Bold And The Floral

For the new year, my fashion resolution is to stray away from the pastels and plain colors I usually wear and experiment with bright colors and bold patterns. My inspiration for this new take on fashion came from the spring 2015 runway show by Carolina Herrera. The show’s 45 looks featured a mix of my beloved pastels, bold colors and tons of different takes on floral prints. I also loved the free-flowing styles of her dresses because they make the perfect fit for all body types, and the structured necklines and sleeves give the looks a more futuristic feel.

I was ready to hold true to my New Year’s resolution by trying the mix and match look at a sorority meeting. Because it’s about 30 degrees here in Tennessee, I didn’t want to freeze, so I layered my floral dress with a sweater, which I folded under to make it cropped. I normally would’ve gone for a simple white cardigan, but I decided to go bold and wear bright pink instead. I added the statement necklace and gold watch to dress up the outfit a bit and kept the shoes simple with black, lace-up booties.

This spring 2015 show showed me how to mix and match prints and bold colors and still rock my pastels. I also discovered that bright colors can easily brighten up your day, as well. I’m definitely looking forward to adding more patterns and colorful pieces to my wardrobe this spring and to take more fashion risks.
