The runway trend of incorporating a mixture of materials through different pieces was iconic in the winter and luckily the trend is continuing into the spring. Tom Ford’s newly released spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection showcases models and even singer and actress Lady Gaga wearing a mixture of suede, leather and lace. Ford dressed his models to look fierce and strong. The boldness presented in every outfit empowered the women and showcased their confidence. I love that Tom Ford would pair a skin tight lace skirt with a loose fitted sweater, so the outfit held the perfect amount of femininity while still keeping the I don’t care attitude present.
I love that everywhere you look from runways to the city streets, Fashionistas are enjoying the current fad of leather, suede and lace. Most wear the pieces separate though and are missing out on the beauty that is created when you bring the materials all together, like Tom Ford did in his newest collection. When overlapping the materials Fashionistas create a very unique boho-chic look. I decided to pair my skin tight black leather leggings with a pair of fun gold buckled booties. To add dimension and flare I paired my white crochet and lace flared sleeve top with a studded fringe vest. This suede vest is one of my favorite items I own, because it is a statement piece and the movement of the fringe is perfect for dancing in the streets. My outfit carried out the same chic appearance and edgy design that Tom Ford put together in his collection.
Many would believe that wearing simple colors such as black or white wouldn’t make a bold statement. However, by layering and mixing materials you can create a look that draws a lot of attention due to the amount of detail the outfit presents. Fringe allows your outfit to have movement and contributes to your frisky and playful side. The outfit was perfect for a spontaneous Saturday night trip to downtown for sushi dinner and a concert in Raleigh’s Ritz theater.
