We all know the feeling: you put on a killer outfit and your day instantly brightens. It feels good to look good! But sometimes it’s hard to get to that result, especially as a college student getting ready for a 9:00 a.m. lecture when it’s five degrees outside. All you want to do is crawl back into your bed and turn yourself into a blanket burrito. Sometimes, we need a little inspiration to get our motivation back up to get that feeling again. Trust me, I get it. But, it’s now easier than ever to find a designer that really makes you want to put in that extra effort to feel confident in what you’re wearing. Now that everything is digital, fashion is accessible by the touch of a button.

Vogue’s website is a great way to stay up to date with all things trendy. For these winter months, I found Babyghost’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection something to aspire to. Designers Qiaoran Huang and Josh Hupper did it again with a show full of beautiful clothing inspired from their nomadic, hotel life. Traveling between China and the United States, Huang and Hupper drew from the tapestry fabrics, room keys and room numbers found throughout their various hotel stays. The theme of this show was mixing subtle patterns and then pairing them with dark neutrals and layering, lots and lots of layering. Each look flows effortlessly together, producing intricate outfits that can be worn by anyone.

In my look, I emulated a similar pattern found in the collection with my oversized turtleneck sweater. I paired the sweater with a tight skirt under it, to give that layering effect. Since it is winter, I threw on over-the-knee socks so my legs wouldn’t completely freeze. Babyghost does an excellent job of pairing delicate, more feminine outfits with combat boots. The boots neutralize the outfit and make it more approachable for everyday wear. I mimicked that idea by adding Dr. Martens to my outfit. I added some personal touches to really make the look something I feel confident in. I added a vintage watch, a suede handbag and dark red lipstick to complete the look. Having a messy ponytail also helped pull the whole look together. I challenge you, the reader, to go find a collection that really makes you feel excited about getting dressed in the morning. Aim to get that awesome feeling of rocking your outfit, every single day.
