STYLE GURU STYLE: Ready to Workout

The spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, adidas by Stella McCartney, was every girl’s dream come true. Do you want some workout clothes made trendy? Yes, please! The collaboration between adidas and Stella started 10 years ago, building off the idea that workout clothes should be stylish. The collection began with a versatile silver jacket that could be slung and worn as a backpack. That was already a really unique start. The show continued to embody femininity with its use of floral patterns and lace panels that emphasize one’s ability to wear them as layering pieces outside of the gym. Throughout the show, the standout colors were grey, orange and black. From seamless tights to scuba-inspired studio tops, Stella has made wearing workout clothes much more exciting this year.

For days that I’m running late, I am no longer afraid of wearing workout clothes outside of the gym. My outfit this week was inspired by the idea that comfortable clothes can be fashionable with the help of some feminine prints. Stella made it clear to me that sweatpants are not just sweatpants; they are the backdrop of a unique outfit. I chose to pair my dark grey sweats with a floral print top. It had a white-striped collar, giving it a jersey feel. I accessorized my look with a pair of oxfords and a structured tote to keep it looking more like street wear and less like gym wear. This look works well for a full day of classes while still appearing put together.

This spring 2015 show reminded me that wearing workout clothes is not scary, nor is it lazy. When paired with the right pieces, it can look just as trendy as the next outfit. I will definitely be incorporating this trend into my spring looks.

Get My Look: 1. The perfect pair of sweatpants. 2. Delicate oxfords. 3. A small structured tote.
