STYLE GURU STYLE: Power To The Prints

I am still in awe over the amazing pieces shown at New York Fashion Week. The innovative structures, eye-catching prints and billowing silhouettes made me check my feed almost every second of the day to see what would emerge next. With all of the beautiful collections showcased, Zimmermann’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection really captivated me. It gave a ‘60s and ‘70s vibe. I fell in love with the high waists, feminine hats, plunging necklines and rich colors that were presented. Although it was hard to choose, one look really caught my attention from the show. I loved the pairing of navy high-waisted trousers with a printed and sheer turtleneck top. The black hat pulled the look together and added the final elegant touch. Zimmermann inspired me to translate the look from the runway to class and made me feel effortlessly chic.

I am obsessed with the color palette of the original outfit, so bringing those colors into my own outfit was a necessity. I channeled this look with a navy faux fur coat to bring some color, as well as fun texture to my ensemble. I paired my outerwear with a pair of dark-wash high-waisted jeans (which happen to be one of my favorite pairs) to emulate the silhouette of the look. Although the model dons very dainty and adorable black flats on the runway, I incorporated my tan pointed-toe boots with stud detail to incorporate some of the neutral colors shown in the look, as well as a bit of edge to my own outfit.

Accessories are the key to completing any outfit. Although I loved the wide-brim hat on the model, I wanted to bring my personal touch to the look. I used a scarf to fashion a turban as my hair accessory. The headscarf also allowed me to incorporate my own elaborate print, as seen in the model’s top, and even integrated the colors used in the collection. To bring some additional color to the monochromatic look of my clothes, I used Maybelline’s Electric Orange lipstick for a pop that nods toward the imminent arrival of spring that we are all yearning for.

Zimmermann’s collection inspired me to look to the past for new and stylish ways to dress up my looks for class. With beautiful colors and unique accessories, my winter blues was lifted.
